Meet the Team

Chris Yaras is a quality ambassador, motivational speaker, and submarine collision survivor.

Chris is the founder and CEO of Explaining the Tides, LLC. 

Explaining the Tides is Chris’ mission to reach anyone that relies on quality and integrity to ensure the safety and well-being of those that work for them or those that use their end product. 

Chris, in his former role, spent more than three years speaking to shipbuilders and their supply base across the nation.  His focus shows the assemblers, welders, quality technicians how the decision they make about quality allow the sailor to focus on doing their job. Chris quickly realized the impact he could have on other industries.  Tailoring his message of safety, quality, integrity and excellence, Chris has been able to impact manufacturing outside of shipbuilding.

Chris has had the opportunity to present at Caterpillar’s Women in Leadership 2019 Conference.  Timkin had Chris speak at their “Supplier Days” where more than 100 suppliers were brought together to celebrate success and to discuss the future.  BAE held similar events that allowed Chris to spread his message.  Chris has been nominated for TEDx for Veterans in Providence and a Society of Women Engineers Local Buffalo, NY event.

As the Independent Duty Corpsman on board the USS HARTFORD, Chris and the crew experienced a collision in March of 2009.  That day was almost their last. Quality kept them alive.  Chris tells a story about how objective quality evidence allowed him to shake the hand of the welder that made the weld that prevented the ship from being lost that day.  During his presentations, the journey of emotion and perseverance put every listener right there with Chris as he thanks everyday people for doing their everyday job.  

Chris lives in Ledyard, Connecticut, with his wife Amy. They have three children— Calvin (24), Reese (14) and Ella (10). Chris volunteers as a youth sports coach and in Scouting BSA, Troop 16 and Troop 16G. Recently, Troop 16G Ledyard, CT, headed by Chris, was started as the third female scout troop in Connecticut. Together, Chris, his team, and the scout troop are developing tomorrow’s leaders.

Chris has a goal to put purpose into production across America.
